Taylor Zeiger Named MHS Head Softball Coach
Malvern is selecting one of its very own MHS Athletic Hall of Fame Athletes as the Head Softball Coach. Taylor Zeiger will officially be hired at the Malvern Board of Education Meeting on Monday, September 9th, pending board approval. Coach Zeiger is a 2012 graduate of Malvern High School. She also graduated with a B.S. in Business from West Liberty University in 2016. Coach Zeiger is employed full-time in the community with Zeiger Industries.
Taylor was a standout student and athlete at Malvern High School. Coach Zeiger twice earned All-Ohio Honors as a player for the Hornets: Second Team in 2012 and Honorable Mention in 2011. She was a multiple-time first-team IVC and East District All-Star and currently holds 18 school softball records for Malvern High School, including the most pitching wins in a season and career.
At the college level, Zeiger earned four varsity letters in softball at West Liberty University. She served as team captain during her Junior and Season seasons for the Hilltoppers. Taylor played third base while at West Liberty, where she learned a great deal and was mentored by Coach James Bacca. She also gained much experience and knowledge in weight training and athletic conditioning during her college years.
Coach Zeiger has been coaching youth softball since 2016, working with local girls on the fundamentals of pitching and fielding. She also has strong experience as an assistant softball coach at Malvern High School, working the last three seasons with Coach Ashley Dorr.
Malvern Athletic Director Dave Tucci shares that Zeiger was selected based on her passion for softball and strong connection to the Malvern community and current athletes. “We are very excited for Coach Zeiger,” Tucci stated. “She is one of the all-time great softball players in Malvern School History. More importantly, she has a passion for coaching and has already established excellent relationships with our players. It will take some time, but Coach Zeiger will have great success as a head softball coach.”
Coach Zeiger stated, “I am thankful for this opportunity to be back on the field where it all started for me. I am looking forward to getting to work with the girls and the future of Malvern Softball. Go Hornets!"
