🏈Battle for the Hornet Trophy 🏆Friday Night- Go Hornets! Beat East Canton!
What to watch: Malvern head coach Matt Chiurco entered 2024 saying his team was “cautiously optimistic that we can be pretty darn good.” Malvern mostly has been very good since a 41-8 hiccup at Garaway, going 4-0 to improve to 8-1 overall in aiming for its fifth straight win in the "Battle of the Hornets." … East Canton head coach John “Spider” Miller entered 2024 promising his team “will play hard and fight till the end no matter what." His Hornets filled that bill early in a 31-28 loss at United Local (now 8-1) and have been tough on the road all year, but the end is here if the team can’t spring a monster upset. East Canton stands 19th in Division VII Region 25 (16 teams make the playoffs). Malvern needs help to move into the top four in the region, assuring home field in the first two rounds, but might be stuck at No. 5, and possibly open the tournament at home against Norwalk St. Paul, the team that knocked out Malvern in Round 2 last year. … Malvern’s potent offense is led by seniors, starting with third-year QB1 Jared Witherow and big-play WR Rodney Smith. Chiurco hopes to get RB Drake Hutchison back from a shoulder injury to resume posing a one-two threat with Julius Gore. … East Canton’s attack has been fueled by juniors – QB Owen McCroskey has passed for 1,327 yards; Dillon Anderson leads the team in rushing yards and ranks second in tackles. Senior Chanie Stubblefield leads in receiving yards and ranks fourth in tackles. … Malvern, which won 49-0 at East Canton last year, will be outright IVC North champion a second straight year with a win.

Brown Local Schools Celebrates the Groundbreaking of the Malvern Community Learning and Wellness Center!
Brown Local Schools and Aultman Health will partner to open a school-based Malvern Community Learning and Wellness Center thanks to $3,514,100 in grant funding, which is part of Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s ongoing investment in Ohio’s Appalachian communities.
In partnership with Aultman Health, the Brown Local School District will build a 6,880-square-foot Community Learning and Wellness Center to provide comprehensive services, including access to healthcare, mental health, addiction, and recovery services, CARE Team Services, and physical fitness opportunities for staff and community members. The wellness center will operate on weekdays, year-round. Students will be prioritized, but the center will be able to serve staff while allowing access to the broader community.
The Malvern Community Learning and Wellness Center will include a school-operated preschool classroom to increase high-quality early learning services to the Malvern Community. The project will also include a leadership and career lab to serve the school district and the community for leadership and workforce development.
FMD Architects, located in Fairlawn, has been selected as the Architect, while Beaver Constructors is the project's Construction Manager.
The Center will open in August of 2025
