Go Hornets

Brown Local School Community,

It is a Great Day to be a Malvern Hornet!

I want to thank each of you for a fantastic first few weeks of school. We have much to be thankful for in our school district at this time. I know school safety has been in the national news, local news, and found on social media recently. We appreciate your understanding and support as we worked through a safety concern on Friday, September 6th.  At Brown Local Schools, School Safety is always our top priority. As we head into the weekend, I wanted to highlight the comprehensive safety measures we have implemented across our district to ensure the well-being of our students and staff.

  1. School Resource Officer- We have an outstanding full-time School Resource Officer who knows our students, families, and community.

  2. Facility Enhancements: Over the past few school years, we have invested significant resources into our physical building safety. These improvements include, but are not limited to, installing glass safety film, improving exterior doors and lock security, increasing playground fencing, enhancing cameras, and alarm systems, installing Flock Safety License Plate Cameras, and many other school safety enhancements.

  3. Threat Analysis System: We utilize a research-based threat analysis system to evaluate any potential threats to our district. Our district has a trained team dedicated to this threat assessment system, including involvement with law enforcement.

  4. Partnership with Local Law Enforcement: Our strong partnership with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office keeps us informed of any potential local or national threats involving schools. We have great relationships with all of our local agencies and collaborate weekly.

  5. Anonymous Tip Line: The "Say Something" Anonymous Tip Line is available for students and families to report any concerns. While primarily designed for students in grades 6-12, it is open to the entire community.

  6. Mental Health Support: We have increased the mental health support available to all students and staff, along with CARE Team Support. We will soon break ground on the 3.8 Million Dollar Grant-Funded Malvern Learning and Community Wellness Center as we continue to invest in supporting the whole child at Brown Local.

  7. Ohio School Safety Center Support: We work closely with The Ohio School Safety Center as they visited our campus just a few weeks ago. On October 25th, the Ohio School Safety Center will conduct a full day of safety training for all staff at Brown Local Schools. We will continue to partner with this organization for training and school safety improvements.

  8. Building Positive Relationships: Being a small school district and community, we have many advantages in building positive relationships with all our students and families. Our most important safety measure is our commitment to knowing each student in our district and building positive relationships with them.

Our number one concern is the safety of every student and staff member. I appreciate all the support we receive from our amazing Malvern Community. Go Hornets!
