Three Malvern Students Inducted into the 2024 National Technical Honor Society
On April 29, three Malvern High School Juniors were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society during an R. G. Drage Career Center ceremony. Those honored with induction to this prestigious organization included Drew Ritter- Graphic Communications; Abigail Abel- Health Tech Program; and Jacob Kirby- HVAC Program.
The National Technical Honor Society is an educational non-profit that honors, recognizes, and empowers students and teachers in Career and Technical Education. As the honor society for Career and Technical Education, NTHS serves over 100,000 active members annually in secondary and postsecondary chapters nationwide. Student must meet high standards to be part of NTHS, including high grades, excellent attendance, and dedication to their Career and Technical Program.

2024 TRACK SENIOR DAY

John is with his host parents, Vey and Billy Wagner. John, our exchange student this year, will letter for the 1st time in Track this spring, where he runs the 400 and 800 along with participating in the high jump. He also earned a varsity letter in Cross Country in the Fall. John became a member of Malvern High School’s National Honor Society this school year. After graduation, he plans to return to Brazil and attend college.
Ashleigh Piatt
Ashleigh is with her mother, Melissa Piatt, grandmother, Trina Lively, a sister, Bobbie Piatt. Ashleigh will earn her 2nd letter in Track, where she runs the distance events along with the 4x800 relay. She also lettered 2 years in Cross Country. Ashleigh attends RG Drage Career Center and is in the Health Tech program, where she is a member of HOSA, an organization for future health professionals. Ashleigh also is a member of the First Christian Church in Malvern. She plans to go to college after graduation, possibly majoring in Nursing.
Nicolena Theiss
Nicolena is with her mother and step father, Sheri and Jeff Verboski along with her grandparents Linda and Charlie Theiss. Nicolena will letter for the 3rd time in track, where she finished 7th in the IVC in the ShotPut last year. Nicolena attends the RG Drage Career Center and is in the Early Childhood Education program. She works early placement at a Day Care in Massillon. After graduation, Nicolena plans to enter the work force

Kayla Hall Named MHS Head Volleyball Coach
Kayla Hall has been selected as the next Head Girls Volleyball Coach for Malvern High School and will officially be hired at the Malvern Board of Education Meeting on Monday, April 22nd. Coach Hall is very familiar with Malvern High School and the Hornet Volleyball Program. She has served the district as a middle school intervention specialist for three years. During the past three volleyball seasons, Kayla Hall has coached the Malvern Hornets as a varsity assistant and junior varsity coach. Last season, Coach Hall led the Malvern Hornet Junior Varsity Team to a 13-6 overall record and an 11-2 record in IVC conference games. Kayla has also coached Malvern's middle school track for three years.
Kayla was a standout student and athlete at Tusky Valley High School, where she played volleyball for Coach Cortney Goodwin and graduated in 2017. Kayla led the Trojans to the OHSAA State Final Four in her Junior Season and a State Runner-up Finish with a 27-2 Record in her senior year. Coach Hall earned second-team All-Ohio Honors during her senior season. She played college volleyball and tennis at Muskingum University and graduated with honors and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. As a college student-athlete, Coach Hall earned All OAC Academic Honors.
Malvern Athletic Director Dave Tucci shares that Coach Hall was selected based on her strong experience in volleyball, outstanding track record as an assistant coach and educator at Malvern, and her ability to create relationships with student-athletes.
“We are very excited for Coach Hall,” Tucci stated. “Kayla has been a great asset as a teacher and coach during her time at Malvern. She has been All-In since day one. Outstanding coaches have mentored her. We look forward to supporting her and seeing our volleyball program succeed under her leadership.”
Coach Kayla Hall stated, “I am very grateful for this opportunity and excited to get to work. I have loved being part of the Malvern Family. I cannot wait to start teaching these girls, and I feel big things are coming for Malvern Volleyball.”

On Wednesday, April 17th, Malvern students in grades 6-12 participated in a safety assembly coordinated with the Ohio State Highway Patrol- New Philadelphia Division and the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office. Students learned about the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of staying focused while behind the wheel as we enter the “100 Most Dangerous Days” on Ohio roads.
Carroll County Sheriff's Department Detective Rick Stauffer and Carroll County Prosecutor Steven Barnett shared a presentation on social media and internet safety with students. Students were informed about the laws of using personal devices and encouraged to make responsible decisions.
