Malvern Elementary Earns State Momentum Award
Malvern Elementary School has been recognized with the Momentum Award by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for outstanding academic achievement during the 2023-2024 school year. This prestigious honor is awarded to schools that increase their Performance Index by three or more points while achieving a Value-Added rating of four or more stars.
The Momentum Award is a testament to Malvern Elementary’s commitment to excellence, both for its students and the Malvern community. The school demonstrated significant improvements in Math, Reading, and Science, culminating in a four-star overall rating on the most recent state report card.
Malvern Elementary Principal Danielle Hawk expressed her pride in the students and staff, stating:
"I am very proud of our students and staff at Malvern Elementary. We have been working so hard to improve our academics, climate, and culture. This award demonstrates that the hard work is paying off. It is a great day to be a Malvern Hornet!"
Curriculum Director Dawn Kaufman also praised the dedication of the educators, emphasizing their commitment to student success.

Malvern High School’s Rodney Smith Signs with Ashland University
Congratulations to Malvern High School Senior Rodney Smith on signing his national letter of intent to continue his academic and football career at Ashland University. Ashland University is an NCAA Division II school and competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Smith earned Division VII All-Ohio First Team honors after a remarkable senior season, finishing with 68 receptions for 1,244 yards and 18 touchdowns. He scored 20 touchdowns overall and added two 2-point conversions, totaling 124 points.
Additionally, Smith was named an IVC All-Star and led the area in interceptions with six—returning two for touchdowns—while recording 37 tackles on defense. He also handled punting duties for Malvern, averaging 34.5 yards per attempt.
Rodney is also a standout basketball player on the Malvern Hornet IVC Championship team.
Congratulations, Rodney Smith, on this incredible achievement!
